UNCW to Conduct a Full-Volume Test of the Seahawk Warning Siren System on July 17
Friday, July 14, 2017
UNCW will conduct a full-volume test of the Seahawk Warning Siren System at 12 p.m. on Monday, July 17. The university will also test additional emergency communication tools in conjunction with the siren, including email, desktop, phone and text notifications, as well as emergency beacons at CREST Research Park.
The Seahawk Warning Siren System is an outdoor emergency warning tool and may not be audible inside campus buildings. No action is required when the siren sounds during the test.
In an actual emergency, immediately take shelter indoors, monitor UNCW communication tools for additional information and wait for an all-clear notification.
Only students, faculty and staff who have voluntarily registered their cell phone numbers with the university will receive UNCW Alert emergency text messages and voicemails during the test and in actual emergency situations.
To receive emergency notifications on your phone:
Log into mySeaPort.
Click “Register to Receive UNCW Emergency Texts” in the left-hand navigation.
Provide/update your personal information.
Click “Submit.”
To discontinue emergency notifications:
Reply “STOP UNCW” to the test message. To remove your phone number and/or email address from the emergency list, send a request to uncwalert@uncw.edu.
