Children’s Book by UNCW Alumnus Hits Shelves
Friday, January 27, 2017
Two children’s books by UNCW alumnus Justin W. Pope ’05 are now available at Barnes & Noble.
“Henry and Matilda's Adventure in Charleston” is a K-2 book and that takes Henry, a dog, and Matilda, a hen, on an adventure from their farm to the famed South Carolina city. Published by Sleepytown Press, this is the second in a series.
“Henry and Matilda's Adventure in New York” was published in 2011. Pope grew up on a farm and dreamed of going to places like New York. When he finally had the chance to go, it inspired him to write.
“I credit the UNCW Communication Studies department for the ability to better develop ideas. I learned about presentation and perhaps the best takeaway was the goal to keep growing as a professional and as an individual,” he said.
Pope recently signed copies of his books at the Barnes & Noble store at Mayfaire Towne Center in Wilmington and has upcoming book signings in New York, Raleigh and Charleston. In the fall, Pope’s third book in the series will release, as Henry and Matilda embark on an adventure to Wilmington.
In addition to penning children’s books, Pope works as a systems administrator at New Hanover Regional Medical Center and as a freelance reporter for the Wilmington StarNews.
