Christine Poon to Open Chancellor’s Distinguished Lecture Series

Christine Poon, an executive-in-residence and professor in the Department of Management and Human Resources at the Max M. Fisher College of Business at The Ohio State University, will open the 2016-17 Chancellor’s Distinguished Lecture Series in October.
Poon will speak on “The Priceless Ingredient” on Oct. 5 at 4 p.m. in the Burney Center. A question-and-answer session will follow the lecture. The event is open to all UNCW students, faculty and staff.
Poon served as dean of the Fisher College of Business and the John W. Berry Sr. Chair in Business from 2009 to 2014. Prior to joining Fisher, Poon spent 30 years in the healthcare industry, most recently as vice chair and worldwide chair of pharmaceuticals at Johnson & Johnson. There, she served on the company’s board of directors and executive committee and was responsible for managing the pharmaceutical businesses of the company. At the time of her retirement from Johnson & Johnson in 2008, Poon was the highest-ranking woman in the company.
Her areas of expertise include domestic and international business operations and sales and marketing. Prior to joining Johnson & Johnson, she spent 15 years at Bristol-Myers Squibb. Poon is on the board of directors of Prudential Financial Inc. and the supervisory board of Royal Philips Electronics. She was named Woman of the Year by the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association in 2004 and named Business Leader of the Future by CNBC/The Wall Street Journal in 2005.
The Chancellor’s Distinguished Lecture Series features executives, government officials, academic professionals and nationally recognized speakers to the university. The series provide informative lectures on topics related to values, hard work and leadership skills.
