Thursday, June 23, 2016

Brooke Lambert has been named the program coordinator of UNCW’s LGBTQIA Resource Office after a nationwide search, the University of North Carolina Wilmington announced today. She will begin on Aug. 1.

Lambert will oversee UNCW’s LGBTQIA Resource Office programs and services and collaborate with the local and regional LGBTQIA community. She will also serve as a resource for faculty, staff and students who wish to integrate LGBTQIA issues into their curriculum or scholarly work.

“We are thrilled to have Ms. Lambert join the Seahawk family,” said Kent Guion, the university’s chief diversity officer. “Her experiences in leading a center, creating innovative programs and extensive collaborations with faculty and campus units align perfectly with our needs.”

For the past four years, Lambert has served as the LGBTQIA program coordinator at the Access and Diversity Center at Utah State University in Logan, Utah. During her time at USU, Lambert trained student leaders and provided a place for safe communication among peers about LGBTQIA issues; assessed programs and retention efforts with underrepresented student populations, including LGBTQIA, multicultural and non-traditional students; and led campus-wide training and collaborated with departments to increase inclusiveness.

“UNCW is extremely supportive and I'm excited about collaborating with people from across campus,” said Lambert. “I have had very positive interactions with faculty, staff and students and I can't wait to jump in and get to know more people.”
Lambert plans to strengthen the resource office by establishing a mentoring program and building upon the university’s safe and supportive community.

Lambert holds a bachelor’s degree in health education and physical education and a master’s degree in sport and physical education from Utah State University.
