UNCW College of Arts and Sciences to Host Open House April 16

Friday, April 08, 2016

UNCW's College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) will showcase its programs during an inaugural CAS Open House on April 16.

The event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Chancellor’s Walk, will feature a marine animal touch tank, a fossil sifting exhibit, musical performances, art showcases, on-camera performance taught by students and more. The event is free and open to the public.

“We want to showcase the college to the larger community,” said CAS Dean Aswani Volety. “Our faculty and staff are excellent scholars and teachers who provide vibrant experiences to our students. Their contributions to the community have a significant impact on Wilmington and the region.”

The College of Arts and Sciences is UNCW’s largest academic unit, comprised of the arts, the humanities, the mathematical and natural sciences, and the social and behavioral sciences. Applied learning is a hallmark of the student experience; each of the college’s departments requires an applied learning experience as a part of the curriculum for undergraduates.

“Our faculty and students engage in artistic endeavors, scientific research, community outreach, and service that benefits the community and makes the region a better place,” Volety said. “We hope that attendees will see how all of our departments engage students and the community in projects that make a difference.”
