Challenge Met! 1,218 Donors Participated in UNCW’s “Give More in 24” Effort
Wednesday, April 20, 2016
UNCW raised more than $255,000 during the university's third annual 24-hour giving challenge. On April 19, supporters everywhere were invited to be a part of “Give More in 24,” through gifting any amount to any area of campus. The goal of securing 500 donations during the 24-hour period was met, unlocking a $50,000 challenge gift. In addition, UNCW Chancellor Jose V. Sartarelli issued a $10,000 bonus for exceeding our original goal of 500 donors.
Those challenge funds will make a difference on our campus in the following ways:
- $20,000 will be allocated to the Chancellor’s Distinguished Merit Scholarship Endowment to help attract students of the highest caliber to UNCW by providing coverage for the full cost of attendance.
- $10,000 will be allocated to the College of Arts and Sciences, winner of the alumni competition for being the first college to have 100 alumni donors participate during the challenge. These funds will help the College of Arts & Sciences provide more experiential learning opportunities for students.
- $10,000 will be allocated to important areas on campus, including Randall Library and ETEAL.
- $20,000 will be used to increase every challenge donor’s gift by $24.
"I hope you are as proud of the UNCW community as I am," wrote Chancellor Sartarelli in a campus message issued Wednesday morning. "Thank you for your generosity, which will give flight to even more opportunities for our students and programs."
The university is continuing to tally gifts; final numbers will be released when available.
