9 a.m. Monday, Oct. 5: UNCW CLOSED MONDAY; WAGONER DINING HALL, SRC, FSC AND FUU OPEN FOR STUDENTS

Monday, October 05, 2015

UNCW will remain closed on Monday (10/5), as weather forecasts predict an additional 3-5 inches of rainfall. All classes and events on the main campus and the Onslow Extension site have been canceled. Athletics events may remain in place; check uncwsports.com‎ for available updates.

The Emergency Closing Policy is in effect for faculty and staff: https://uncw.edu/policies/documents/08222EmergencyClosingPolicy.pdf.  Employees should contact their managers with any questions or concerns. The university is extremely grateful to the employees who have worked tirelessly throughout this storm to help keep our campus safe and as operational as possible.

A flash flood warning is currently in effect, and hazardous weather conditions are expected throughout the day. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to stay informed about weather conditions by monitoring the National Weather Service or local media coverage.

Please remember the following safety guidelines:

Do not attempt to swim, wakeboard, tube, or otherwise venture in or around flood waters. This is an extremely risky endeavor that could result in serious injury, illness or death.

Call 911 in the event of an emergency.

Exercise caution when driving; do not attempt to drive through flooded areas.

Pay attention to detours and debris.

Do not enter the ocean; surf conditions are extremely dangerous.

Wagoner Dining Hall and the Student Rec Center are open and operating under normal schedules, but please check the website before setting out to be sure hours of operation haven’t changed. The Fisher Student Center and the Fisher University Union are also open today (10/5). Please check individual campus service websites for information on hours and closings.

Although campus events and activities are canceled, patrons should check individual event websites for rescheduling information and other updates.

As the campus continues to respond to adverse weather conditions, we request that students, parents and family members refrain from calling UNCW offices so university employees can focus time and resources on obtaining and disseminating the latest information.

Monitor the university’s homepage, UNCW Alert, Facebook and Twitter pages, or call the Emergency Information Hotline at 910.962.3991 or 888.657.5751 for university updates. Additional information will be posted on these sources as conditions warrant.

Thank you for your continued caution and attention.
