4:15 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015 – UPDATE: UNCW TO REMAIN OPEN, CLASSES AND EVENTS TO PROCEED ON SCHEDULE
Thursday, October 01, 2015
In partnership with the National Weather Service and local and state agencies, UNCW continues to closely monitor Hurricane Joaquin. Based on the latest information available, UNCW officials have determined that the main campus and Onslow Extension Site will remain open, with all classes and events proceeding on schedule. Officials advise against students leaving campus or traveling to campus given the possibility of heavy rains, hazardous roads, and potential flood conditions. Safety information will continue to be distributed to students as the storm progresses.
All campus services, including dining locations, Randall Library, and the Student Rec Center, are operating on their usual schedules. However, students should check UNCW.edu for updates before departing for campus locations, as hours of operation could change as conditions warrant.
As always, students who do not feel comfortable traveling to or from classes should exercise their best judgment. As of 8 a.m. on Friday, the Adverse Weather Policy is in effect for faculty and staff.
While all events are proceeding as scheduled, patrons should check individual event websites for potential changes or cancellations. For the latest UNCW Athletics schedules, please visit uncwsports.com.
As the campus continues to respond to adverse weather conditions, we request that students, parents and family members refrain from calling UNCW offices so university employees can focus time and resources on obtaining and disseminating the latest information.
Please continue to monitor the university’s homepage, UNCW Alert, Facebook and Twitter pages, or call the Emergency Information Hotline at 910.962.3991 or 888.657.5751; updates will appear via those channels if there is a change in status or conditions.
If and only if developments warrant, another message will be distributed by 9 a.m. on Friday.
Thank you for your continued attention to these updates.
