UNCW’s Office Of Quality Enhancement for Nonprofit Organizations Receives Grants Totaling $255,000

Tuesday, September 15, 2015

The University of North Carolina Wilmington’s Office of Quality Enhancement for Nonprofit Organizations (QENO) has received $255,000 from partners to support development and training programs for funders, civic leaders and members of nonprofit organizations across Southeastern North Carolina. Registration for these programs is now open.

“Nonprofits are an integral part of the community and we want members of these organizations to see QENO as a resource that will help them flourish,” said Natasha Davis, director of QENO. “By leveraging grants from our partners, we can expand the level of services we offer through the creation of new opportunities and programming.”

The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) Foundation granted QENO $180,000 over two years, which will go toward training and professional development for their AmeriCorps VISTA members to benefit and build capacity of local nonprofit organizations; a two-day adaptive leadership program provided by Cambridge Leadership Associates; and a one-day workshop with Kivi Leroux-Miller, a national nonprofit marketing and communications expert.

QENO has also received $55,000 from the Cape Fear Memorial Foundation and an additional $20,000 from United Way.

This year is the first time that QENO is offering their multi-module program package as individual classes. This change is based on feedback they’ve received from past participants and will make it possible for attendees to customize their experience. Classes offered include Human Resource Essentials for Nonprofits, Responsible Board Governance and Financial Accountability.

Through professional workshops, organizational coaching and research, QENO provides nonprofits with the tools they need to excel and strives to increase philanthropy in Southeastern N.C. Institutional support for QENO is also provided by the Department of Public and International Affairs within UNCW’s College of Arts and Sciences.
