Hundreds of Students Thank Donors During Annual Get to Know PHIL Day

Friday, April 17, 2015

On April 16, hundreds of students took to social media to show their appreciation for the philanthropic support of UNCW donors.

“Thank you to those who have made my experience at UNCW as amazing as it has been thus far! Your gifts and donations have truly impacted my life and everyone else's for the better. I tell every person that becoming a Seahawk was one of the best choices I ever could have made, and it is all thanks to the contributions you have made to this institution that I get to call my home.”

The Get to Know PHIL program was created in 2011 by University Advancement. The program is designed to help educate current students about the important role philanthropy plays in their educational experience, and as a result, creates a stronger culture of alumni giving.

During the annual Get to Know PHIL Day, students write messages of thanks to the thousands of donors who give to UNCW each year. PHIL also has his own text trivia contest, participates in UNCW’s Involvement Carnival, presents to UNI courses,  student organizations and more. Students who intern with PHIL gain real-world experience in development, marketing and event planning.

In 2012, the Get to Know PHIL program was recognized with a CASE III District Grand Award Winner in the category of Educational Fundraising Projects.

To date, more than 560 employees have made a gift to UNCW this year – in addition to thousands of alumni, parents, friends and current students.
