UPDATE: Tropical Storm Warning Now in Effect for UNCW Area Through 6:15 p.m.

Friday, June 07, 2013

Today UNCW is continuing to monitor Tropical Storm Andrea as it makes its way through our region. At a 12:15 pm update, the National Weather Service extended the Tropical Storm Warning for New Hanover County and the surrounding areas to 6:15 pm. This means that tropical storm force winds (39 MPH or greater) are expected to occur until this time. Rain threats are still scheduled to diminish around 2:30 pm, but a Flood Watch remains in effect through Friday evening. People should continue to exercise caution when traveling locally and to be vigilant about a high risk of rip tide currents through tomorrow. Please monitor the local news media and the National Weather Service regarding current and imminent threats this weekend. This message will be updated this evening unless conditions warrant an earlier bulletin.
