UPDATE: Rains Ending, Windy Conditions & Rip Current Risk Remain in Effect

Friday, June 07, 2013

UNCW continues to monitor the progress of Tropical Storm Andrea in cooperation with our on- and off-campus partners. The storm is rapidly losing its tropical characteristics since making landfall in Florida Thursday evening. The center of the storm is expected to pass west of Wilmington by 1 p.m. today, Friday, June 7.

Locally, rains are predicted to taper off after 9 a.m., but windy conditions will continue through the afternoon. A high risk of rip currents is expected throughout the day. Beachgoers are advised to avoid entering the ocean today. Please continue to monitor local media regarding current and imminent hazards through Sunday.

Brief power outages have been reported at the Center for Marine Science, but overall, the UNCW campus has sustained minimal damage from Tropical Storm Andrea.

Please continue to check the Emergency Information Hotline at 910.962.3991 or 888.657.5751, the UNCW Alert website, the UNCW homepage, social media and/or local news media for the most current information. This message will be updated after the storm center passes the UNCW area. Thank you.
