UNCW Hosts 10th Annual WITX Conference

Wednesday, April 03, 2013

The Wilmington Information Technology eXchange Conference (WITX) will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. on April 9 in the UNCW Computer Information Systems Building.

Now in its tenth year, the conference aims to educate attendees on various technological innovations and advancements in such diverse fields as human psychology, drone technologies, mobile forensics, cyber defense, and tablet computing. Keynote speaker Jeff Crume, Distinguished Engineer and Security Architect for IBM, will discuss the realm of social media and its inherent risks to organizations and individuals.

"Ten years ago we created this conference to foster communications between the IT community and the university," says Thomas Janicki, Conference Chair and UNCW Information Systems professor. "Growing from sixty attendees to over three hundred was a great accomplishment and exemplifies the strength of Wilmington's growing IT community. This year we were proud to announce Castle Branch as our primary sponsor and we hope to continue our growth of attendees, vendors and exhibitors."

Exhibitors will include representatives from leading technology vendors and UNCW students and faculty, and for the second consecutive year, WITX will feature an Ignite Speaker Series beginning at 6:30 p.m. The fast-paced and popular series takes place routinely in hundreds of cities worldwide and offers presenters only five minutes to share their personal and professional passions via twenty slides, which advance every fifteen seconds.

The keynote speech will begin at 2 p.m., learning sessions will run from 3 to 5 p.m., and student and vendor exhibits opening at 4:30 p.m.

For the learning eXchange sessions and the keynote address, a registration fee is required. Access to the exhibits and vendors is free and open to the general public. For more information and to register, visit
