Students Reach Out

Even as students were displaced and distressed, they still wanted to find ways to help their community.
“We have sponsored a volunteer project weekly since our return that has been tied to hurricane relief in some way,” said Jaime Russell, director of the Office of Student Leadership and Engagement. She cited just a few of the examples of students reaching out to the greater Wilmington community.
“We had a group gut houses with Habitat for Humanity in Burgaw, another group did home repairs with Wilmington Area Rebuilding Ministry, and we have volunteered with the diaper bank. Several of our fraternities and sororities did volunteer work during the closure, and some have continued to volunteer since our return.”
