2018 UNC System Employee Engagement Survey

Message from Chancellor Sartarelli

Dear Faculty and Staff:
As I mentioned in my welcome back message earlier this month, The University of North Carolina System is conducting an Employee Engagement Survey to gather input from faculty and staff, from all 17 institutions, about workplace engagement. The five-year survey, which will be conducted annually, will offer each one of you an opportunity to make your voices heard, and I encourage you to participate. (Faculty, please note this is separate from the COACHE survey, which is expected to launch in March.)
The UNC System Strategic Plan includes a goal to foster diverse and excellent institutions, and your input will help the University gain clearer measurements for success that will assist us with the recruitment, retention, and development of the most talented and diverse workforce possible. This of course aligns with UNCW's own strategic plan's focus on diversity and excellence, in our employees and in everything we do.
The survey, which will be conducted by ModernThink LLC, an independent research and consulting firm that specializes in higher education climate assessment, will include questions on collaboration, communication, supervision, workplace culture, benefits, and other topics. The data our campus will receive through this program will help us continue to build and sustain an environment that attracts and retains world-class faculty and staff.
On January 29, the online survey will be distributed to all full-time faculty and staff. You will receive an email invitation directly from ModernThink with survey details and log-in information, including a unique login and password that only you can use. Your log-in allows you to access the survey via computer, tablet or mobile phone, wherever a computer is available, even at home, on a PC, tablet, or phone.
The survey will not take long to complete, and you may fill it out during work time or off-work time. Because a high response rate helps ensure an accurate representation of our community, please also encourage your colleagues to complete the survey.
Survey participation is voluntary and completely confidential. Only ModernThink will have access to individual employee responses so that our institution cannot trace results back to individuals. Over the summer, we will receive and share reports that summarize the data provided so that we can recognize our successes and begin to address concerns that most directly impact and influence our workplace culture.
