Annual Pre-Kwanzaa Celebration and Senior Sankofa

Wednesday, December 04

The 13th annual Pre-Kwanzaa Celebration will be held Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. in the Warwick Center Ballroom. Willa Brigham, two-time Emmy-winning host of WRAL’s “Smart Start Kids” and performing artist, is the keynote.

This year’s celebration will also feature the Fall Senior Sankofa Ceremony, which honors UNCW’s graduating African American students. Sankofa is a West African word in the Akan language meaning "wisdom in learning from the past to build for the future" and symbolizes an African rite of passage.

Come learn about the Ngozu Saba (7 Principles of Kwanzaa), paint Adinkra symbols and celebrate the university’s African American students. The event is free and open to the public. Seating is limited. RSVP by Nov. 18 by visiting
