Leadership Lecture Series with Gabby Rivera

Wednesday, January 23

UNCW will welcome Gabby Rivera, a Latina writer, speaker and storyteller best known for the young adult novel Juliet Takes a Breath and Marvel Comics’ “America,” as part of the 2018-19 Leadership Lecture Series. She will speak at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 23 in the Burney Center.

The series continues with Derreck Kayongo, founder of the Global Soap Project, which recycles used hotel soap and redistributes it to impoverished populations around the world, on March 27. In 2011, he was honored as a CNN Hero of the Year.

Tickets for the lectures are available through Sharky's Box Office. They may also be purchased in the lobby of the Burney Center the evening of the event.

The Leadership Lecture Series invites participants to engage in diverse political, cultural and economic discourse and stay informed about topics that affect the world around them. In addition to the lectures, class visits and other events are planned. Past speakers include Jerry Greenfield, half of the famous duo that created Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, and Piper Kerman, critically acclaimed author of memoir-turned-Netflix-series Orange is the New Black.
