CHHS Director of School of Nursing Accepts Position of Dean of the College of Nursing at Penn State

School of Nursing Director Laurie Badzek has accepted the position of Dean of the College of Nursing at Penn State University.

For the past three years, Laurie served as an outstanding leader for both the School of Nursing and the College of Health and Human Services.

Among her numerous accomplishments at UNCW, Laurie helped to launch the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program, collaborated with faculty colleagues to breathe new life into the Master of Sciences in Nursing (Nurse Educator) Program and provided leadership for recruitment efforts within the School of Nursing to support current program growth, as well as position the school for success for years to come. 

In addition, Laurie worked with CHHS leadership to fully implement the college’s Core Service Team Model, the faculty workload policy and helped to create systems to manage enrollment across the college. She has been instrumental in the development and implementation of the CHHS strategic and academic program expansion plans. She has facilitated research and community service among faculty and students and has further developed community partnerships, including the Nurse Advocacy Board. Laurie is a tireless advocate for the creation of platforms which allow faculty and students to enhance health and quality of life of all people. 

Dean Charles Hardy praised Laurie for her contributions to CHHS saying, “Laurie has been a great addition to the CHHS Leadership Team. We are very appreciative of the leadership she has provided UNCW and we wish her well in her new journey.” 

Laurie will begin her new journey on July 1, 2018.
