On Feb. 14, CHHS Dean Charles Hardy and CHHS Student Office Assistants Mary Harmrick and Emily Crumpler participated in the 14th Annual Polar Plunge & 5K event held at Kure Beach.

All of the money raised was donated in support of the Special Olympics New Hanover County.

According to the Polar Plunge event web page, Special Olympics New Hanover County provides year-round sports training, competition, social events and Camp Shriver summer camp for people eight years of age and older with intellectual disabilities.

Over 600 athletes participate in Special Olympics New Hanover County. The program is dependent on private and corporate support, as well as the efforts of over 300 volunteers to provide these services at no cost to the athletes or their families.
