Dean’s Welcome

Wow, fall break has already come and gone, and it seems like only yesterday that we were welcoming faculty, staff and students to the start of 2017 fall semester! I have had “Charge” meetings with all CHHS Committees and Advisory Councils. I am excited about each of the Shared Governance structures we have in the CHHS and am very thankful to all faculty, staff and students who have agreed to serve in this capacity. I look forward to the deliverables that are produced by all of these structures.

Many thanks to all who participated in the Cape Fear Heart Walk. It was great to see faculty, staff and students from the CHHS Family join in the fight against the nation’s number-one killer. Thanks to Phil Hardy and Marsha Todd for leading Team CHHS. In addition, how about the Diversity and Inclusion Programs anchored by the FaceAge Instillation? The Globalization, Culture and Diversity Committee deserves our thanks for bringing this program to our community and for collaborating with units across UNCW and beyond!

Many thanks to all of the staff, faculty, students and community partners who assisted in hosting President Spellings and the new members of the UNC Board of Governors. I think our message of “We enhance health and quality of life” of individuals, families and communities in southeastern NC resonated with the BOG Members and the president. Judging by their response, CHHS hit a Home Run!

CHHS IPC Task Force

The Task Force on Interprofessional Collaboration for the CHHS has been populated and the “Charge” meeting will be scheduled for mid November. For a listing of the members of this task force, please click here. The purpose of this task force is as follows: 1) Review and capture—in a data base—the activities that we have undertaken since 2010 that have advanced IPC in the CHHS; 2) Develop a plan, complete with resource requirements, to fully integrate IPC programing into all aspects of the work of our College—i.e. curriculum, applied learning research and community engagement; and 3) In conjunction with the Quality Assurance and Assessment Committee, develop and implement an assessment plan to feed into the CHHS Strategic Plan. The task force will present its final product to the CHHS Leadership Team at the end of the 2018 spring semester.

CHHSTalk is a stakeholder communication tool. The purpose is to communicate about the many things going on within CHHS to remind us to remember why we do what we do. That is to say, this e-newsletter is CHHS being its best self! It is our hope that you find “joy” while reading the CHHSTalk. Please send your feedback and future story ideas to hardyc@uncw.edu.

Cheers,
Charlie
