Nelson Reid: Ph.D., MSW

Nelson Reid is Emeritus Professor of Social Welfare, School of Social Work, College of Health and Human Services, UNCW. He joined the UNCW faculty in 1998 serving as the founding Chair of the Department of Social Work in the College of Arts and Sciences. Over the years he served as Interim Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, as Director of University Academic Planning, and as a member of the UNC system Scholar’s Council supporting UNC Tomorrow strategic planning under Erskine Bowles. He was a member of the planning group for the establishment of the College of Health and Human Services. Prior to UNCW he held academic and administrative appointments at Ohio University, Auburn University, and North Carolina State University. He has held visiting appointments at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and the University of Cape Town. His publications include four books and more than 45 scholarly articles and book chapters in the areas of American social welfare history and policy, applied ethics, and social service administration.
