Program: 3 years (9 semesters consisting of 106 credit hours), admits 30 students, and starts in May.

Application: Apply between July and early November. An interview is a part of the process.

Admission Info:

  • Average GPA: 3.72

  • Health care experience: Minimum of 100 hours.
  • Three letters of recommendation: Two reference letters should be from licensed physical therapists who have observed you during your 100 hours. The third is a general reference. PTAs are accepted as a general reference only.


AP Class will receive credit for the prerequisite list if it appears on a transcript, however the course will not be considered in the GPA calculation. All courses completed with C or higher, only one repeat per category. When applying in the fall, no more than two courses can be in progress and no more than two to be complete in spring of senior year.

  • General chemistry (I & II), 8 semester hours with lab (UNCW: CHM 101 and CHM 102)
  • General physics (I & II), 8 semester hours with lab (UNCW: PHY/L 101 and PHY/L 102)
  • Biology, 12 semester hours to include:
    • 8 hours of biology (I & II) plus 1 semester of human or mammalian physiology with lab
    • 4 hours of biology plus 2 semesters of human physiology and anatomy with lab (UNCW: BIO 201 and BIO/L 240 and BIO/L 241)
  • College algebra or higher (MAT 111 or higher)
  • Statistics (UNCW: STT 210 or STT 215)
  • Psychology, 6 semester hours to include general psychology (UNCW: PSY 105 and another PSY course)
