Susan Young, PhD, RN, PHNA-BC, Assistant Professor

Susan YoungDr. Susan Young received her BSN from Florida Gulf Coast University and began her career working as a staff nurse in a hospital Obstetrics unit. She was a Quality Improvement Coordinator at a safety-net provider in a Migrant Community in Florida and worked as a Newborn/Postpartum Home Visitor and later Clinical Services Section Director at a county health department in N.C. She graduated from the BSN to PhD program at UNC Chapel Hill in 2012 and also earned a Graduate Certificate in Global Health from the Gillings School of Public Health.

Dr. Young has taught clinicals in LPN, ADN, and BSN programs and has several years of experience as nursing faculty in pre-licensure programs, teaching Reproductive Health Nursing, Research, and Community/Public Health Nursing courses. She is interested in working with vulnerable populations and reducing health disparities.
