Erin WaxDr. Erin Wax joined the SON faculty in 2021. Dr. Wax has been a Family Nurse Practitioner for 11 years, focusing primarily on women’s health, OBGYN, and acute care. She is originally from Florida, completed her BSN and MSN in Maryland, and has been living in Emerald Isle North Carolina for 17 years.  Dr. Wax started her nursing career at the bedside on a busy medical -surgical unit in Annapolis, Maryland. Her passion for public health and infectious disease led her to Johns Hopkins Hospital where she would work as a bedside nurse on a HIV/AIDS dedicated unit and where she completed her Masters in HIV/AIDS and Infectious Diseases Clinical Specialist degree. Dr. Wax would later assume the role of clinic manager in an outpatient HIV/AIDS clinic at The Johns Hopkins University, where she developed a model to improve access to care for the surrounding community needing HIV/AIDS care.

Dr. Wax moved to North Carolina and gained experience in evidence-based practice as an Outcomes Specialist for a rural hospital. She later earned her certification in infection control and was an Infection Control Practitioner before heading back to school to earn her Family Nurse Practitioner. Most recently Dr. Wax earned her DNP and her DNP project title was Addressing Obesity in a Rural Women’s Health Clinic. Dr. Wax believes that the profession of nursing opens all doors to achieving a diverse, innovative, and dynamic career. She enjoys precepting and mentoring nurses to help them achieve their professional goals.
