Anka Roberto: DNP, APRN, PMHNP-BS, MPH Assistant Professor

Anka RobertoDr. Anka Roberto received her DNP in 2016 from Fairfield University as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner after her many years working with children and families in acute care and community health environments in New York. Roberto received her BSN from Fairfield University in 1999 and a dual masters’ degree receiving her MSN/MPH in 2005 from Hunter College in NYC.

As a pediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit nurse, Roberto recognized the need of clinicians to understand post traumatic stress disorder of the patients and families they serve. As part of her studies as a PMHNP she became fully trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a level A trauma treatment and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to allow for her desire to care for clients struggling with symptoms of PTSD. Roberto’s desire to work with children has influenced her work with children in her practice as she takes a holistic approach in caring for traumatized children and their families. She specializes in sand tray therapy in combination with EMDR and therapeutic play as she helps children and their families gain some freedom from anxiety and behavioral issues that many times influence the whole family system. Roberto believes in taking a full family approach in her work with children as families come along side each other in the therapeutic process.
