Jennifer R. McCall: PhD, MBA
Assistant Professor, Clinical Research
Dr. Jennifer McCall joined the Clinical Research faculty having previously taught in the UNCW Department of Biology and Marine Biology. She received her MS and PhD in biology from UNC Charlotte and her MBA in the business of biotechnology from UNC Wilmington. She currently teaches scientific writing and biopharmaceutical technology transfer.
McCall's research interests involve drug discovery and development. Using bioprospecting methods, her research examines novel compounds from a marine origin, such as algal extracts, for pharmaceutical potential. These marine natural products are further explored to determine mechanisms of action. McCall is currently researching antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory candidates, as well as developing previously discovered natural products for pre-clinical studies.
