Dr. Douglas Engelman Elected Vice President of Wilmington NAMI Chapter

JUNE 06, 2022

Dr. Douglas Engelman, visiting assistant professor in the Department of Sociology and Criminology, has been elected to serve on the board of directors, as vice president, for the Wilmington chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). He assumes this position after having served as an at-large board member since October 2021. Engelman is also the faculty advisor to the UNCW NAMI chapter.

Engelman and colleague Dr. Stacey Kolomer, director of UNCW's School of Social Work, are developing initiatives targeting the UNCW student population, with the objective of reducing stigma and providing support to students and their families following a diagnosis of a mental health disorder. Drs. Engelman and Kolomer are currently developing a podcast entitled "Talk About Mental Illness," scheduled for launch in fall 2022.
