UNCW Ranked First in Nation for Best Value in Undergraduate Marine Science Degree Programs

JANUARY 30, 2020

UNCW’s Bachelor of Science in marine biology is ranked 1st on a list of Top 20 Values in undergraduate marine science degree programs for 2020, as selected by College Values Online.

“We are very pleased with this news,” said Heather Koopman, chair of the Department of Biology and Marine Biology. “This recognition can be attributed to the dedication our faculty and staff have towards student success and the student hands-on research experience.”

The program was evaluated based on accreditation, rankings in major publications and affordability.

UNCW is consistently recognized for academic excellence and value, key priorities of the university’s Strategic Plan.

Elevated to “Doctoral Universities: High Research Activity” in the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education in 2018, UNCW debuted at 92nd on the U.S. News & World Report's list of Top Public National Universities for 2020. The university also ranked 32nd nationally on Kiplinger’s Best Public College Values 2019 list and was named a Best Southeastern School by The Princeton Review.
