Synergy Keynote Address

Actress, playwright and author Anna Deavere Smith, hailed by Newsweek as "the most exciting individual in American theatre," uses her singular brand of theatre to explore issues of community, character and diversity in America. She was awarded the prestigious MacArthur Fellowship for creating "a new form of theatre - a blend of theatrical art, social commentary, journalism and intimate reverie."

Her presentation Snapshots: Glimpses of America in Change is an exploration of race, community and America combining performance art with lecture. Slipping in and out of character, she constructs a diversity of emotions and points of view to bring people to a better understanding of the "complex identity of America."

Co-presented by University College, Women's Resource Center and Upperman African American Cultural Center

The New York Times has called her "the ultimate impressionist: she does people's souls."

Tickets $9 public, free for UNCW students, faculty and staff. Call Kenan Box Office 910.962.3500 or buy tickets at
