Notice: Consolidation of Academic Affairs Personnel Administration with HR
In May 2023, Chancellor Volety charged Provost Jamie Winebrake and Associate Vice Chancellor for Human Resources Lori Preiss with evaluating the potential consolidation of the HR-related functions performed by Academic Affairs Personnel Administration (AAPA) with HR. From this effort, a couple of themes became apparent:
- Continued alignment of functions related to faculty affairs, specifically credentialing, RTP, and PTR, with the Office of the Provost was critical.
- Better synergies for similar/overlapping functions across AAPA and HR were possible within the areas of recruitment, hiring, and compensation. Opportunities for consolidation, structural efficiencies, process consistencies, back-up support, and leveraging of resources were highlighted.
As a result of this review, a realignment will be implemented that ensures the unique needs of faculty and Academic Affairs continue to be supported while leveraging the broader capabilities of a centralized HR team. A few items of note:
- Three Academic Personnel Specialist positions focused primarily on recruitment, search committee support, and compensation will transition from AAPA to HR. Each of these positions currently supports assigned colleges and this will not change with the transfer to HR. The transition of the three positions to HR will occur by July 15 to minimize any disruption of services provided.
- College-level workflow approvals for recruitment and compensation in HR-related systems (PeopleAdmin and Banner HR) will not change.
- HR and the Office of Faculty Affairs will continue to work together to ensure seamless administration of faculty support functions for our campus partners.
The centralization of human resources functions under one unit streamlines operations and we are confident that this unified approach will foster a more cohesive, collaborative, and agile HR environment, capable of adapting to the evolving needs of our academic community. Provost Winebrake and AVCHR Preiss are dedicated to ensuring a smooth transition for all stakeholders involved.
