Already applied and accepted to a graduate program? UNCW’s Graduate School provides a step-by-step guide to enrolling and becoming a UNCW student.
UNCW students are required to have health insurance. You can enroll in our student health insurance plan or provide proof that you’re covered by another insurance program, including Tricare. Go to milConnect to get proof of Tricare coverage. If you need proof of enrollment for insurance purposes, email registrar@uncw.edu and request a letter of enrollment verification.
Military-affiliated students are eligible for a range of financial aid programs. In addition to exploring the military-specific aid programs described below, consider applying for financial aid and scholarships available to all UNCW students.
Veterans Affairs Educational Benefits
Our VA benefits page provides basic info about types of benefits, eligibility, applying for benefits, and using your benefits. The Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid certifies your benefits—see their info for military students to learn about the certification process.
Military Tuition Assistance Programs
Service members may be eligible for tuition assistance (TA) from the force with which they serve.
Our memorandum of understanding with the Department of Defense governs military tuition assistance. If you don’t see your graduate program listed in the TA portal for your service, email Camden Ege at egec@uncw.edu and request that it be added.
If you have questions about billing or which costs are covered by TA, contact UNCW’s billing office at thirdpartybilling@uncw.edu.
Scholarships for Military-Affiliated Students
Local, state, regional and national organizations offer scholarships and grants for military-affiliated students—download our list of military scholarships. Note that eligibility requirements and application deadlines vary.
Veterans and other military-affiliated students tend to be good candidates for competitive scholarships thanks to their life experience, leadership skills and global perspectives. Be sure to investigate all scholarships available to graduate students or these specifically for military students.
Costs & Billing Info
The Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid provides estimated costs-of-attendance for graduate and undergraduate students. Estimates account for tuition and fees, books and supplies, housing, meals, and more.
As a military-affiliated student, you can set up a military payment plan through the eBill system used by UNCW students to manage their accounts. Contact Sissy Hendricks in student accounts for more info: hendricssl@uncw.edu or 910.962-3147.
Veterans and service members are eligible for $20 discounts on UNCW parking permits. Apply for a parking permit though mySeaport once you’ve registered for classes. (Discounted permits for military spouses and dependents aren’t currently available.)
