Janie Canty-Mitchell, Professor and Associate Director of Research and Sponsored Programs,has been running Camp BONES (Brigade of Nurse Exploring Seahawks) since 2007. The camp is a four-year nursing and health academy for under-served and underrepresented middle and high school students, recruited from eight counties in the southeastern NC region. - A short film created by Professor Joseph R. Pawlik and the Pawlik Lab has been accepted into the "Beneath the Waves" film festival as part of the 2012 Benthic Ecology Meeting in Norfolk, VA, 21-24 March 2012. The film is from the Aquarius Mission to Conch Reef, Florida in June, 2011.
- Dr. Todd A. LaMaskin, assistant professor of geography and geology, has a new paper, "Detnital Zircon Facies of Cordilleran Terranes in Western North America" in the March issue of The Geological Society of America's (GSA) science and news magazine. LaMaskin's analysis shows a systematic variation in age distribution within the depositional age and setting of the host sediments. Read the article here.
- Dr. Richard Olsen, Professor and Department Chair of Communication Studies, and Frank Trimble, Professor of Communication Studies have received a $15,000 grant award from the American Institutes for Research to support their project "Interactive Curriculum in Health Communication."
- Research Professor of Marine Vertebrate Physiology, Andrew Westgate was recently interviewed by Canadian Public Radio about the work he and Associatae Professor of Biology and Marine Biology. Heather N. Koopman are doing with basking sharks in the Bay of Fundy. Listen to the radio interview here.
