UNCW Presents is committed to providing educational and creative opportunities that extend beyond the stage. We coordinate free programs in which members of UNCW and our region are able to interact with visiting artists and lecturers, supporting classroom and lifelong learning.

Meet & Greet Reception with Joe Klein

Co-sponsored by Student Media, Seahawk Perch and Student Veterans Organization

Joe Klein, author of Time Magazine’s “In the Arena,” the National Headliner Award winner for Best Magazine Column, opens a discussion of issues surrounding veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars. Immediately following his lecture, there will be a Meet & Greet reception in the Clock Tower Lounge. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided. To RSVP for this event, email Stefanie Mancuso.

Squonk Opera Informal Discussion
Squonk Opera will meet with an Introduction to Theatre class for an hour-long discussion about theatre and their work.

 

Squonk Opera Workshop
Squonk Opera will complete a residency event with TACT, where they will reach out to a production master class. There will be TACT students present, all interested in theatre, all varying in ages.

 

Squonk Opera Stage Tour
Squonk Opera will perform two scenes for the classes and then dissect the scenes during a stage tour. The stage tour will last approximately 45 minutes and will be followed by a question and answer period.

 

Squonk Opera Stage Tour

Immediately following their performance, Squonk Opera will host a Question & Answer period on Mayhem and Majesty.

Bearfoot

Bearfoot Public Demonstration

Alaska based bluegrass quintet Bearfoot bring their unique sound to a variety of American music genres from bluegrass to Cajun to blues. Bearfoot will perform a musical demonstration outside in the Common Amphitheater.

Eileen Collins

Meet & Greet Reception with Eileen Collins

Co-sponsored by the Mimi Cunningham Speaker Series Endowment of the Department of Communication Studies

Eileen Collins, the first female space shuttle pilot and commander, recounts her own leadership experiences and offers her unique perspective on the future of the space program in America. Immediately following her lecture, there will be a public signing in the Burney Center.
