Sherman Lecture Series 

Since 2002, the UNCW History Department has hosted an annual lecture series established to honor two life-long learners and friends of the department, Virginia and Derrick Sherman. Each spring the department selection committee announces the topic of the upcoming lecture and conducts a national competition among junior scholars to select our Emerging Scholar. The chosen scholar visits the UNC Wilmington campus during the third week of October and delivers a major lecture on the Thursday closest to United Nations Day. More

Osher Lifelong Learning Institute  

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at UNCW is a university-led and member-supported organization that provides lifelong learning opportunities, focusing on adults aged 50 and older in southeastern North Carolina, through educational and experiential programming, connecting the adult and university communities. The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at UNCW is one of 117 prestigious institutes founded by Bernard Osher since 1997 for seasoned learners 50+. The Bernard Osher Foundation supports a wide range of educational and cultural initiatives for lifelong learners. More
