Financial aid applications at UNCW are reviewed on a first come, first serve basis contingent upon receipt of FAFSA information and acceptance to the university. You must be admitted to a degree or approved certificate program at UNCW before your financial aid application can be considered.

If you will be applying to for aid at UNCW, please include your Social Security Number on your Application for Admission.Though noted as optional on the application, this information is required by the federal government to process any financial aid awards. By providing this information in the application process, you will save yourself from having to submit an official copy of your Social Security card at a later date. Please indicate that you want your information released to UNCW, school code 002984.

Students may submit their FAFSA beginning January 1. Priority deadline for the fall semester is March 1.  Students planning to begin enrollment in the spring semester must meet the November 1 deadline to secure funding prior to the start of class.

After the FAFSA: What Happens Next?Overview of the Financial Aid Process

Once UNCW has received a copy of your FAFSA, an award offer will be electronically sent to the student. If additional information is required in order to process the financial aid award, known as verification, the student will receive notification via email and through the student portal, SeaNet.

What is Verification?

Verification is used to compare information provided on the student's FAFSA with Federal tax returns, W2's, and/or other financial documents. If a student is selected for verification, they will receive notification via thier SeaNet account listing the additional information required.

Required Verification Items:

  • Household size (number of people living in your household)
  • Number in college (number of household members attending a post secondary educational institution at least half-time)
  • Adjusted gross income (AGI)
  • Income earned from work
  • Income taxes paid
  • Sources and amount of untaxed income

Required Verification Forms:

Processing time of verification documents is approximately 10 to 15 days.
