“Taking Flight” is a senior capstone program that was generated in August 2011. Charged by Vice Chancellor Pat Leonard, the program consists of four workshop series for graduating students centered on making meaning of their UNCW experiences and their transition into the post graduate world.

Tickets are not required to attend Commencement ceremonies at UNCW. Seating will be available on a first come, first serve basis. The doors to Trask Coliseum will open one hour prior to beginning of the Commencement ceremony.
Commencement Ceremony VS Departmental Reception
Dependent on the gradaute's major, there will be one Commecement ceremony that will be held in Trask Coliseum. For May Commencement there are four separate ceremonies. For December Commencement there are two separate ceremonies. Tickets are not required to attend Commencement ceremonies at UNCW.
Additionally, there are Departmental receptions organized by the individual departments. Dates and times will be posted here. Details vary for each reception and tickets may be required. Please contact the department directly regarding questions about the receptions.
Decorum & Behavior
The Commencement ceremony will be conducted with appropriate dignity and decorum. Do not bring air horns or loud noise makers to the ceremony.
Please be considerate of those around you, as Commencement is a meaningful occasion to all guests in attendance. All family members and guests are asked to remain seated during the entire ceremony.
The use of alcoholic beverages and participation in disruptive activities during the ceremony is prohibited and will be handled accordingly.
Professional photographers from GradImages will take individual photographs of each of the graduates during their Commencement ceremony. During the presentation of candidates, each graduate will pose for two pictures, one as a portrait and the other receiving their scroll. Participants will receive a free photo proof and can order copies of their photograph directly from GradImages. Your proofs will be available after the ceremony. Register Email Addresses
Pre-register family and friends' email addresses. GradImages will email photographs when they are available for online viewing and ordering. Pre-register with GradImages by visiting www.gradimages.com, and clicking on the "Pre-Event Registration" at the bottom of the page. This provides them with the most correct and up-to-date contact information and ensures the delivery of your graduation proofs in a timely manner. You may register your email and up to 6 emails of loved ones who would like to share in your accomplishment by viewing and ordering photos.

Official Ceremony DVD
DVD order forms are available through the Office of Alumni Relations in the graduation program that will be distributed at Commencement or you can purchase the Official Ceremony DVD online.
Commencement DVD's are sold within 60 days from the date of graduation. DVDs are only available 60 days after the date of Commencement. To inquire about the availability of DVDs after 60 days, contact the Office of Alumni Relations at email@example.com or at 910.962.2682. Commencement DVDs ordered online or by check will be shipped within 12 weeks of the date of Commencement.
