Community Programs & Residencies

In an effort to create bridges between the campus and community, the UNCW Office of the Arts facilitates community engagement through its Artist in Residence program and ARTworks educational outreach. These programs provide audiences of all ages an opportunity to engage directly with artists and broaden their understanding of the arts through a range of programs, including free performances; workshops; master classes; community/artist collaborations; Meet-the-Artist receptions; Q&A's and open rehearsals.

Over the years, campus and community members have learned to dance Salsa with LA-based company Contra-Tiempo; created new works with members of Pilobolus; attended open rehearsals for Carolina Ballet; performed alongside bluegrass masters from the Del McCoury Band; mastered new techniques under the expert instruction of Jazz at Lincoln Center and Preservation Hall Jazz Band; and participated in workshops with New York stage director Christopher McElroen to develop the critically acclaimed World Premiere Stage Adaptation of Ralph Ellison's Invisible Man.
