Wilmington, NC – The University of North Carolina Wilmington’s Department of Music is hosting an evening of jazz performances on Friday, Sept. 27, the University announced today. Music Department Chair Frank Bongiorno will be joined by faculty, alumni, and other noted musicians from the Wilmington area for the concert, in which they’ll perform a collection of works inspired by legendary jazz saxophonist Charlie Parker. The event is part of UNCW’s Family and Alumni Weekend and proceeds from Jazz with Strings will go to the department’s scholarship fund.
“This is a unique opportunity for the Music Department to showcase the talent we have within UNCW during an important weekend for the campus,” said Bongiorno. “Additionally, we are grateful that the support we receive for this event will allow us to give back to current and potential students.”
Accomplished UNCW faculty joining Bongiorno onstage will be Mike Waddell, John LaCognata, Grammy-nominated Jerald Shynett and Michael D’Angelo, Bob Russell, Andy Whittington, Danijela ŽeŽelj-Gualdi, and Jason Foureman.
The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Beckwith Recital Hall, located in the Cultural Arts building.
