UNCW Mourns the Loss of Alumnus and Friend Bill Dobo

The University of North Carolina Wilmington community is deeply saddened by the loss of Gabriel William “Bill” Dobo ’51, who died June 27.
"Bill Dobo was a dedicated alumnus and loyal friend who gave back to UNCW in many ways," Chancellor Gary L. Miller said. "His legacy will live on through his generous support of the university’s music and science programs. On behalf of the university, Georgia and I extend our deepest sympathies to the Dobo family and to all of Bill’s friends on campus and in the community.”
Beckwith Recital Hall in the Cultural Arts Building is named in honor of his late wife, Barbara Beckwith Dobo. Dobo Hall, a science building on campus, is named in honor of Bill Dobo and his wife as well as his late brother Robert Ridgely Dobo Sr. ’50 and his late wife Dorothy Gray Dobo. The brothers jointly received the Alumni of the Year Award from the UNCW Alumni Association in 2005.
