UNCW Summit to Explore Future of Entrepreneurship in SE North Carolina
Wednesday, February 20, 2013
Wilmington, N.C. - UNCW plans to unveil a new regional asset map, website and database at an entrepreneurship summit on campus Thursday, Feb. 21, Burney Center.
The presentation is part of an overall discussion about the future of entrepreneurship in Southeastern North Carolina. The summit will include a presentation by Chancellor Gary L. Miller about the potential growth of the Entrepreneurship Center and a keynote address by Bijoy Goswami, founder of Bootstrap Austin. Summit participants include regional business, entrepreneurship, economic development and community leaders.
The map, website and database visually connect Southeastern North Carolina’s regional assets – people, locations, support systems, networks and funds – for entrepreneurship and economic development. The UNCW Entrepreneurship Center contracted Startupoint, an Atlanta firm, to develop the information.
The Startupoint website contains the database, and business owners have the opportunity to enter their information in the system. The database, which will be free and open online, provides the information for the regional asset map. Founder Justin Sacks will share the regional asset map with area business and economic development leaders.
“These tools are a tremendous resource for the entire region,” said Jenni Harris, assistant to the chancellor for community partnerships. “The Entrepreneurship Center is pleased to offer this service to our community, and we encourage businesses to enter their information in the database.”
