Homecoming 2013
Seahawk spirit soared on UNCW's campus as alumni, students, family and friends celebrated numerous victories in Seahawk sports and reconnected with faculty and former classmates.
Saturday, February 16, began with various academic reunions scattered around our beautiful campus while runners enjoyed an early morning 5K, sponsored by one of the university's fraternities. Alumni and their guests were treated to refreshments, giveaways and tours while they caught up with old friends and made new connections at more than a dozen reunions and socials.
The bright, warm sun accompanied Seahawks on their campus strolls and visits to the Bookstore, but as evening approached and the sunny skies gave way to rain and then snow, the alumni TEALgate tent was the place to be, providing shelter for extraordinary weather that can only be witnessed in coastal North Carolina. Hundreds of alumni and friends gathered at the TEALgate, filling up on delicious BBQ and Dave's Fave, a new sandwich served at campus dining halls in honor of young alumnus and donor, David Hoxie.
Ready for the action in Trask, Seahawks fans headed over to the coliseum to cheer on our Men's basketball team for their victory over Northeastern. Fans exploded in excitement and bleachers were filled with shaking teal pom poms. In a moment of passion, our Seahawk Sweethearts, Jordan Winn '12 and Craig Dykstra '11, shared their Dub love on the big jumbotron.
The game may have been over, but the after-party was just heating up as guests arrived at the Homecoming Celebration. Rock jams from UNCW's unofficial faculty band, The Schoolboys, and tasty hors d'oeuvres greeted Seahawks as they piled into the Burney Center ready for one last hoorah before the night came to a close.
