Eligibility Status

A student’s eligibility status is indicated on SeaNet with each semester’s grades. Also see Registrar’s web page.

Mid-Semester Progress Reports

Each semester, UC secures Mid-Semester Progress Reports from faculty teaching Basic Studies courses. Instructors are requested to report grades of C- or below and/or excessive absences for UC students. The process is completed on-line and grades are reported to UC advisors. When advisors meet with their students for pre-registration, they are able to discuss any deficiencies reported, explore factors hindering student achievement, and advisors make appropriate referrals to campus resources.

SEA Plan

At the time grades are recorded at the end of Fall semester, students in academic difficulty are sent letters describing the University College recovery program called SEA Plan (Successful Educational Achievement Plan). In early January, SEA Plan students are encouraged to complete contracts with their advisors regarding course selection, resources they will use, the consequences of their academic difficulties, and the academic requirements for successful continuation at UNCW. Through SEA Plan, advisors help students identify strategies to improve their grades in order to meet requirements for satisfactory academic progress. Students meet with Learning Center professionals to complete the LASSI (Learning and Study Strategies Inventory). Follow-up sessions at the Learning Center help the students better understand their own learning and study strengths and weaknesses and how to make improvements. SEA Plan students are encouraged to meet regularly with their advisors who monitor their academic progress and work with them on their recovery efforts.

When Spring semester grades are recorded in May, students whose grades are unsatisfactory are identified as "Ineligible" and told that they may not return to UNCW in the Fall unless they regain their eligibility in Summer School at UNCW. Students in academic difficulty are encouraged to meet with advisors in the University College Advising Center to discuss their options and to arrange to attend Summer School at UNCW to regain their eligibility or improve their grades. UC advisors are available throughout the summer to assist students in their efforts to recover.
