Welcome to University College’s website for First Year Spring Admits. If you have been admitted and have verified your intent to enroll, you will be receiving an official letter of welcome from the University College during the summer. In the meantime, feel free to explore this website. The UC FYSA website has been created specifically for students starting in January.
UC prides itself in providing excellent academic advising and first year experience programs for all UNCW freshmen. Students who begin classes in January receive the same services as students who start in August. Like other freshmen, FYSA students will:
- Be assigned to an academic advisor who will focus on the student’s academic success and transition to UNCW.
- Receive academic advising during Orientation. This includes assistance with course selection, the basic studies requirements and the registration system (SeaNet).
- Have the option to take UNI 101-“The Freshmen Seminar” during their first semester at UNCW. This class assists students with the transition to UNCW and connects them with a group of other FYSA students. According to university statistics, this course helps students succeed academically and remain in college.
- Receive a copy of this year’s Synergy book. Synergy is UNCW’s common reading program. Each year a book is selected and read by members of the UNCW community. Programs and activities that focus on the themes of the book are offered. Many faculty members incorporate the book into their classes.
- Have access to their academic advisor anytime during the semester to find answers to questions like these.
- How do I withdraw from a course?
- What major should I consider?
- What should I do if I’m sick and miss a lot of classes?
- How do I declare my major?
- Meet individually with their advisor in March to discuss how he/she is doing academically, course selection for the summer and fall, and possible majors.
We look forward to helping you in the future. If you still have questions after reviewing the FYSA website, email University College at uc@uncw.edu. Please include your phone number in case an academic advisor needs to contact you.
Sincerely,
