PRAXIS I

About Praxis I

Praxis I® Pre-Professional Skills Tests (PPST®) are used for licensing and certification processes and measure basic skills in reading, writing and mathematics. They can be taken as separate tests or as a combined test in a single testing session. See Praxis I information. See also Watson School of Education/ Praxis I information. Each state and licensing organization determines its own certification and Praxis™ passing score requirements. For more information about certification requirements, visit the state requirements section. Also, scratch paper and pencils are provided to each tester.

Test Time: approximately 4 hours for 3 tests or approximately 2 hours for 1 test.

Valid ID Form Required: driver's license, or passport, or military ID must be presented at the time of testing.

How to Register

Register online for the Praxis I test. On November 7, 2011, test takers will have access to a new online registration system that will offer 24/7 access to register for both computer-delivered and paper-delivered tests in one place. Test takers will also be able to reschedule, change their test center or cancel a test online. Payment options will include PayPal® and e-check in addition to credit/debit card. See Important Information Regarding Registration for Praxis Tests. Note: payment is due when you register for the test.

Dates and Times Offered

Praxis I tests are offered year round Monday through Friday. Start times for the combined test are 8:00am and 12:35pm. Start times for the individual tests are 8:30am, 10:30am, 12:30pm and 2:30pm. Friday afternoon appointments are not available from the first week in May to the first week in August.

Cost, Refunds, and Rescheduling

Generally, you are eligible for a refund of $20 per Praxis I® test ($60 for combined test) or $30 for Praxis II® tests if you cancel your testing appointment at least three full days prior to your test date. (This does not include the day of your test or the day of your request. For example, to cancel a Friday appointment, you must submit your cancellation request no later than the Monday prior to your test.) To reschedule see Cancel or Change Your Registration
