Motivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing Workshop

Co-Sponsored by the NC Psychological Association

Motivational Interviewing is a person-centered directive therapeutic style that works to elicit client’s motivations for change. Clients’ responses usually contain reasons for change that are personally important for them. This self-talk can be used to address discrepancies between clients’ words and actions in a manner that is non-confrontational.  Motivational Interviewing is an empirically validated, client-centered form of guiding used to resolve ambivalence and build motivation to change.

The purpose of this seminar is to provide a brief introduction and update of the theory, principles and basic strategies of Motivational Interviewing.  Content will be delivered through lecture, video, and demonstration.  Join your colleagues at UNCW, either in person or online, to learn from one of the leaders in motivational interviewing techniques.

Online and in-person options available

If participating online, you will need a webcam, microphone and high speed Internet connection. We recommend dialing in at least 15 minutes prior to the start time to adjust your computer’s audio and video settings, if necessary, to ensure the best possible experience. Online instructions will be emailed upon registration.
