Royal Drummers & Dancers of Burundi

Wednesday, September 26

7 p.m., Kenan Auditorium

“It was all a celebration of ability, the sheer pleasure of competitive creativity.” —New York Times

Since the 1960s, the Royal Drummers and Dancers of Burundi have toured the world, bringing their unique influence to world music. Traditionally, the drummers travelled with Burundi’s kings and played at ceremonies such as births, funerals, and coronations. In Burundi, drums represent regeneration, and the techniques the drummers employ have been passed down from father to son for centuries. Energy and sharp rhythms will make this performance the ultimate African drum experience!
