Provost Barlow called the meeting to order at 2:00 P.M.
The minutes of the September 21, 2010 meeting were approved as posted on the web.
Provost Barlow announced the remaining scheduled meetings for 2010-11 (see below).
Dr. Curran provided an overview of enrollment models, addressing questions such as: What is the appropriate mix between graduate and undergraduate students? What is the appropriate mix between resident and distance students? What is the appropriate number of undergraduates? What is the financial impact of these decisions? What programs should be targeted for growth? Which programs have national, state, or regional value? Results of the Student Insight survey of 2,000 North Carolina high school seniors in 244 high schools was presented, along with the most popular majors based on admission to the university and based on graduation. Three scenarios for growth through 2020 were presented: an 88.03% undergraduate/11.97% model, an 86.66% undergraduate/13.96% graduate model, and an 84.03% undergraduate/15.97% graduate model. Dr. Roer presented projections on graduate enrollment through 2020 and the effects these changes would have on state funding. A copy of the presentation is available here (pdf). Projections for the impact on state funding are available here (pdf).
A presentation by Dr. Akinleye on distance education enrollment projections had to be postponed due to the exhaustion of the time scheduled for the October 19 meeting.
