University Planning and Quality Council
November 30, 1994 Meeting
Members present: Dr. James Leutze, Chair, Dr. Joan Willey, Dr. Jack Baker, Robert Walton, Dr. Kenneth Gurganus, Dr. Virginia Adams, Dr. James McNab, Dr. Richard Mullendore, Dr. Howard-Vital, and William Anlyan, Dr. Howard Rockness, Dr. Robert Tyndall, Dr. Carolyn Simmons.
Others attending: Dr. Denis Carter, Dr. Joann Seiple, Tim Jordan and Robert Fry.
The meeting was called to order at 3:10 p.m. The minutes from the September 28th Planning Council meeting were approved as distributed .
Report on the "Legislative Study commission on the Status of Education at UNC" The Chancellor reported on November 28th his presentation to the "Legislative Study Commission on the Status of Education at UNC" which was held in Raleigh . Dr. Leutze pointed out that this meeting provided and opportunity to present information on how funding levels affect UNCW. Mr. Fry presented an overview of the presentation that was given at the Raleigh meeting.
Long Term Enrollment Projections Mr. Fry asked the Council to consider the long term enrollment projections for the university citing the current need to plan for additional campus facilities. He reviewed the projections that had been distributed several months ago showing an enrollment target of approximately 11,600 students by the year 2008. It was noted that facilities are not the only factor that will be affected by these enrollment projections.
Draft Version of the Long Range Planning, 1994-99 - The University of North Carolina Board of Governors Mr. Fry distributed a copy of pages from the draft version of the Long Range Planning, 1994-99 being prepared for release by The University of North Carolina's Board of Governors. He reviewed the planning assumptions made by General Administration and the eight (8) strategic directions approved by the Board of Governors. Information on planning strategies was also presented with attention given to new items included since the last publication of the plan. After some discussion, it was decided to discuss this subject more thoroughly at the next meeting.
The next meeting will be February 8, 1995, 3:00 pm - Alderman 215 There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 4:10 p.m.
