Graduation Pledge

“I pledge to explore and take into account the social and environmental consequences of any job I consider and will try to improve these aspects of any organization for which I work.”

The History of the Pledge:

The Graduation Pledge Alliance was founded at Humboldt State University, and UNCW students adopted it as a result of a senior initiative in 2001. Those who choose to take the pledge join seniors from all over the country who wish to make a commitment to being part of shaping a better citizenry and world through their employment, awareness and advocacy.

Who can take the Pledge?

Seniors who are graduating can take it. When you take the pledge, you will receive a green ribbon that should be worn on the left side of your graduation gown. If you wish, you may sign up for the pledge here and pick up the ribbon pin at the Office of Student Leadership and Engagement, Fisher Student Center Room 2029, before graduation.
