GradNation Wilmington Regional Community Summit - Dec. 1

Thursday, November 05, 2015

On Dec. 1, the Watson College will host the GradNation Wilmington Regional Community Summit, convened by UNCW’s Watson College of Education Dropout Prevention Coalition.

The summit is one of 100 that are being held around the country through 2016. The summits are co-sponsored by America’s Promise Alliance as part of its GradNation campaign, a national movement of dedicated individuals, organizations and communities working together to raise the national high school graduation rate to 90 percent by 2020 and increase postsecondary enrollment and completion.

In 2013 AT&T pledged $5 million over four years to support all 100 of the GradNation Community Summits.

Like previous UNCW Dropout Prevention Coalition (DPC) events, the focus of the summit is on promoting successful programs in the region that enhance student success and help to increase high school graduation rates.

The keynote speaker is Darrell Scott from Rachel’s Challenge, a program that has been adopted by schools around the world including 120 schools in Southeastern North Carolina. A lunch panel and 18 breakout sessions will feature successful programs offered in the region by area schools, government agencies, businesses and nonprofit organizations.
